We will talk about legalities. How to get your Hunter Education Certification. Where to find the regulations and how to understand them. Where to hunt? Public lands and how they can be used. Finding the Wildlife Mangement Areas & National Forest and how to access them.  Private lands and the advantages of permission versus paid access. Leasing or buying and what each entail. The Out-of-State opportunities. Understanding your game species; what types of food they eat, habitat, the species use of cover, moving patterns, and the importance of a water source.

To wrap up Phase One, a shooting portion on targets, elevated shots, shot placement from different angles, and more.

If you have a certain species you are interested in hunting, please let us know. We can tailor the Course with more specific information. This always helps us present you with what you want on your "Firearms Journey."

Phase 2

Phase Two helps you understand scouting the areas in person. Beginning with the Escouting portion. Using the tools the internet offer i.e. OnX Maps, Hunt Wise, GoHunt and Google Earth. Using topographical maps and compass work to navigate your environment. Plan your route to your hunting site and considerations i.e. water features, wind direction, etc. Things to look for once you are in the woods; Tracks, Scrapes & Rubs, Beds, Scat. Stopping and listening as you move to your site. Certain small game and hog hunting during off-season is a good way to hone your "spoor" finding abilities. Picking your hunt site. Once again, many environmental factors play a role. Understanding these and which type of stand/cover is needed. Lastly, we will talk about the different types of stands/cover (i.e. elevated stand, ground blind, etc.).

Phase 3

$149.00 PER STUDENT

Phase Three will apply everything we've learned in the earlier Phases, and we will do a mock hunt. We will move from our rendezvous point to a hunt site. Looking, listening, and training our eyes to look for movement. We will discuss how to call different species into your hunt site. What happens after you take the shot? How do you track an animal once it has been shot using several different techniques. You will have hands-on opportunity with different types of stands and how to employ them. What to do after? Field dressing, getting everything back to your vehicle, butchering & processing suggestions.
